Pre-qualified PCM package system for temperature-sensitive products

In co-operation with the Division of Applied Thermodynamics & Refrigeration at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm a package system has been developed that offers a consistent and desired temperature throughout the distribution of:

  • Frozen goods –18°C
  • Refrigerated goods +2°C to +8°C
  • Room temperature goods +15°C to +25°C

The technology involves covering the interior of insulated containers with ThermoShields. These contain Phase Change Material (PCM), which allows for the utilization of the energy produced when the material changes from solid to liquid form or in reverse order.

The Swedish Medical Products Agency has issued a certificate which documents provided package solutions are CE-mark approved.

Current customer base are primarily pharmaceutical companies whereof some of them played an active role in the product development.

Advantages with this system:
  1. Consistent temperature throughout the useable volume in the box container. Transported products maintain required temperature level.
  2. The composition in the ThermoShields is adapted to the transport situation.
  3. Pre-qualified standard solutions or made to your requirements and possible to simulate in our climate chambers in order to optimise the thermal properties, while at the same time ensuring the validity of the package solution.

Benefits for the user - Lower costs as a result of:
  1. Safe for both frost-sensitive and heat-sensitive products. Maintained quality door-to-door.
  2. Simplified logistics, as performance is adaptable to various transport situations.
  3. Flexibility in container selection, i.e. the system can be adapted for longer or shorter transports, as well as for Returnable Transit Packaging (RTP).

Providing a complete assortment for the cold chain in addition to this package system, Aircontainer provides a complete assortment of products for temperature-sensitive transports together with consulting and workshops in Cold Chain Management.
